Elementary Engineering Extravaganza is an annual outreach event for elementary school students, hosted by Pitt SWE. Approximately 100 kids and their parents participated in engineering activities and watched science demos on the morning of November 11, 2017.
The Chmielus Lab and our friends from the Jacobs Lab participated by hosting demo tables. Dr. Chmielus showed students how shape memory alloys work with nitinol springs and complex shapes, and Dr. Jacobs explained surface tension with the floating paper clip and water droplets on a penny tricks.
